When you look around at the competitive marketplace, what do you see? If you look close enough, inside the trends, you will see that the modern company is coming of age.
The economy has been down a rough road and it was well needed. We needed to be smacked around a bit and the beating is not quite over yet. But, there is good news. Lurking below the swelling and hidden beneath the bruises, there are ideas that will change the competitive marketplace. The evolution of the modern company is in full swing.
What does not work anymore:
- A poor company culture that does not make people want to come to work
- Too many rules, regulations, and stupid policies
- The old ways of doing business, the 4 P’s and cold calling
- Going by gut instinct and feel instead of measurement and data
- When sales and marketing in fight and do not fuel each other
- Thinking the Web and social media are not having an effect on your marketplace
- Management that sits in the ivory tower and not in the trenches
- Maintaining the status quo for the sake of it and protecting sacred cows
Here is what works:
- Creating an inspiring company culture that makes people enjoy their work environment
- Understanding the your employees are smart and only need guidelines
- Learning about and using inbound marketing and warm calling
- Making measurement based decisions based on accurate data
- Marketing and sales fuel each other’s success and they close the loop
- Understanding the nature of the Web, social media, and creating many conversion paths
- Management that lhat loses their ego, gets in the trenches and is just one of the crew
- Telling the status quo to go screw and slaughtering sacred cows
The big idea:
Ideas turn into products and services. Companies are made up of people. People think of ideas. To win in the modern competitive marketplace you need to be ahead of the curve in both your products and services, and the company culture you create. Otherwise, you will lose your top talent and fail to attract the talent you need to grow your ideas.
What do you think?
